Wrap Up on Offspring 4

AND that was the end of this season… What a shock for many of my family and friends, and for myself!
When I joined main unit to shoot the last 2 episodes of the season I had no idea of what was going on. Up until then I picked up a few weeks on second unit, so my knowledge of what was going on was limited. Sometimes I actually prefer not to know much about what is going on so I discover the plot as we shoot. Makes things more interesting for me. But this time, I had no idea whatsoever. It caught me by surprise.

I found out as we started the day shooting the scene when Nina and Billie are downstairs in the garage and Nina sees the rocking horse Patric was working on…
We didn’t rehearse I think. There was tension as always when an actor is in a emotional scene. But when we cut I saw the full picture! I was overwhelmed! I’d like to put it in more poetic words, but, what the fuck!

- Didn’t you know, Manel?

I was in shock!! Provably a tear rolled down… (I might not admit that in court)

Then we shot the scene when Patrick gets run over. I saw Matt and I couldn’t help but say:

- Fuck Matt, you die!
- Yes mate…

My wife’s wise words sounded again in my head: “Don’t fuck it up, Manel”

No pressure…. Molly dying was before my time in Oz, but I knew Pat’s death was going to be a landmark for australian drama for a few people out there.

Working with Emma Freeman was a dream because all she cares is about actors and performance. My job is to get the actors voice and performance as clear as I can in sometimes a challenging environment and with Emma there is always the feeling that we are all doing the same show, caring for our actors and getting the best of them.

Watch this video and see Emma herself talking about shooting this 2 eps.
